What does intimacy feel like when it is mediated through algorithms? What types of affective encounters do users experience, and how do they relate to platforms, devices, and machines? What kind of moods and affects do algorithms generate, and how conscious are users of them? Fembots, virtual personal assistants, and dating apps are discussed as part of this panel addressing the complexities, implications, and drawbacks of today’s algorithmic intimacies. Recent projects offer a foundation upon which to discuss how habits, interests, and desires can be tracked and capitalized by a vast network of companies. Reflecting upon how today’s algorithmic lives are felt, the talks will refer to the situations and conditions that now emerge, and to new sensibilities that become apparent.
