The Last Angel of History (1996) is an influential video-essay by John Akomfrah and Black Audio Film Collective's Edward George that takes a look at the origins, impact and significance of Afrofuturism and techno music for the black diaspora. Structured as a psychogeographic journey, the narrative follows a "data thief" who travels across time and space where he makes archaeological digs for fragments of history and technology in search of the code that holds the key to his future. Along the way he interviews black cultural figures, including George Clinton, Nichelle Nichols, DJ Spooky, Goldie, Kodwo Eshun and Derek May. The structure of the film makes it a meta-narrative commenting on while also becoming part of the genre of Afrofuturism.
