The exhibition space is divided up by three picture surfaces. Two surfaces are holographic foils stretched over transparent panes; they hang opposite each other at eye-level, separated by a few metres, and seem to be caught up in a ceaseless dialogue. Projected onto the one side are video images of leaping flames, onto the other side shots of turbulent water. The three-dimensional images vary according to the viewer's location or movements. The third surface is the area of floor between the two parts of the diptych, where the two video projections superimpose themselves over each other to form a diaphonous, composite image. "I make holography with stories instead of with objects." This principle lends Doris Vila's works a special quality,an individualism immediately manifest in the configuration of the laser-engraved foils. Holography is notan end product for the artist, who uses it as an optical three-dimensional reproduction medium for further "image materials" like film or video. In this way she expands the function of holographic representation from that of simulated showcase into a virtual window opening on a fictional world of associations. 2 holographic elements,2 video projections, 2 video channels
